A rudimentary and incomplete Jeffrey Scott Holland bibliography and collector's guide (Compiled by Scooter Odum, updated 2-16-2026) ===================== A DISCORDIAN DIRECTORY (1980s) - a zine JSH took over from its previous editor Robert "OVO" Blake, mostly an adzine for Discordian, anarchist and SubGenius entities. 714 (1988) - an unbound novel, photocopied and circulated in few copies and then again in a revised edition in 1992 or so. There were brief rumblings in 2010 about reprinting it in a new edition but so far it has yet to be. A rather Beat-Generation type story, as a young couple hitchhike aimlessly. Excerpts have appeared online. (UNBOUND CHAPBOOKS) (1980s-early 1990s) - during his "hobo years" traveling around the USA, many chapbooks of poetry and writing were made, often one of a kind, usually not bound but a stack of loose broadsheets in a clear plastic sandwich bag. The last of these, printed in Lexington, Kentucky, was called CHICKENWIRE and was shrink-wrapped. Of these chapbooks JSH says, "pretty much just me imitating Billy Childish imitating Charles Bukowski." THE LAST LAUGH (1993?) - chapbook of minimalist poems, each copy handmade and hand-bound. SMOKE AND PANCAKES (2001?) - chapbook of minimalist poems, each copy handmade and hand-bound with heavy cardboard cover. Used copies have turned up on Amazon and other resellers. TAKE WITH FOOD OR MILK (2002?) Very tiny perfect-bound books (they were actually blank-book miniatures intended for dollhouse/diorama enthusiasts) with very tiny art and micropoetry, no two alike. Despite the item selling relatively well, it has to our knowledge never turned up on the secondary market. TOULOUSE-INATIONS: PLAY SCRIPT (2008) Spiral bound, approximately 40 copies, issued to the cast and crew for production of the Catclaw Theatre stage production. Copies with actor's notes in the margins are considerably more valuable. WEIRD KENTUCKY (2008) - slick hardcover coffee-table book, Sterling Publishing (a Barnes & Noble imprint). Essentially an extension of his UNUSUAL KENTUCKY blog. Apparently now out of print but used copies are common, many signed. THE DEVIL AND DANIEL BOONE (2012) - the first of the "golden age" of JSH pulp-fiction novels with a disregard for conventional storytelling that nowadays people would call "Lynchian". Says JSH, "the reviews from normies were brutal with 'I don't understand this book at all' but the sales were great, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect response." THE MOLESKIN CHECKLIST (2012) - written before "The Devil and Daniel Boone" but released second. Detective novel. This book has come closest to a film deal of any JSH novel, with film rights being acquired twice and several false starts. THE BARTENDER (2013) - Short novella with illustrations by J. Todd Dockery. A series of quirky events in a Florida dive bar, set in the 1970s. THE SEVENTEENTH ISLAND (2013) - A straightforward pirate novel, with a glossary in the back for antiquated terminology used. TOULOUSE-INATIONS (2014) - A novel based on the play, with extra material and scenes. Includes the entire play script as an addendum. WATER TOWERS LOOK LIKE MARTIANS (2015) - A short novella, limited edition, each copy handmade and bound with tape. One of the "RV&OI" books about the Kentucky street-busking duo known as Retrovirus & Opportunistic Infection. FLINGING SOUP IN THE FACE OF DARKNESS (2015) - Same details as "Water Towers Look Like Martians". There were to be four RV&OI books, ultimately issued as a box set, but the second two never materialized. THE TRACT OF BLOOD (2015?) - A sequel to "The Moleskin Checklist" that was to be his largest and longest work ever, but the project was shelved and its unclear if it was completely finished. A cover mockup was posted online as was a sample chapter. The story was told from Sappy's POV with Jack being a relatively minor character. THE ALTERNATION OF NIGHT AND DAY (2015) - Odd story about a boxer in the 1930s who seeks a voodoo solution to his life's problems. Says JSH, "I couldn't decide if I wanted to write a boxing novel or a voodoo novel next, so i did both". Kindle versions are especially common due to a 99 cent sale on Amazon that JSH intended to only last a week but then forgot to change it! TRANSMISSIONS FROM AGENT J (2016) - a collection of excerpts from JSH's dream journals. Intended for an Amazon release but only ever distributed as an ebook to JSH Book Club members. Sample excerpts are printed in the back of some other JSH novels, and on his blogs. THE INVISIBLE RANCH (2016) - A western tale of a hired "fixer" employed by a milk company to investigate their competition, whose "Lucky Milk" is rumored to have occult connections. Intended for an Amazon release but only ever distributed as an ebook to JSH Book Club members. Sample excerpts are printed in the back of some other JSH novels, and on his blogs. SOLAR STATION A (2017) - A science fiction novel set in the very near future in which personal spaceships become affordable and available to common citizens. Originally planned for a 2015 release and then scrapped, but then resurrected and rewritten after Trump's election which in JSH's words, "added the perfect dystopian backdrop the story was lacking." Intended for an Amazon release but only ever distributed as an ebook to JSH Book Club members. Sample excerpts are printed in the back of some other JSH novels, and on his blogs. UNDOMESTICATED (2018) - the last JSH novel so far, reportedly because he was spooked that so many of the book's fictional events came true. Written between 2016-2018, the book was originally twice as long but cut in half so that the rest could be released as a sequel called PERMAFROST, which so far has not seen the light of day. ================================ (MAGAZINE ARTICLES/COLUMNS) RIFLE COMIX (1992-1996?) JSH contributed articles, reviews and artwork to WRFL-FM's program-schedule magazine. KENTUCKY MONTHLY (2010-2011) JSH had his own monthly column, "Commonwealth Curiosities" in this slick pro magazine promoting the state of Kentucky. LOUISVILLE MAGAZINE - Another slick tourism-minded publication. At several points JSH was asked to contribute pieces for it, usually around Halloween to use the "Weird Kentucky" angle. KYFORWARD - An online news site based in Lexington JSH was a staff writer for. The site went into decline and deleted almost all of its content, including JSH's. LOUISVILLE MOJO - An online dating site/social network tried an experiment in hiring a news reporting staff, including JSH, who wrote a bar-scene column called "Nightlife Notes" in addition to various news editorials with his own colorful spin. As with KyForward, all the content was scrubbed from the Internet after management decided the experiment wasn't working. JLK COMICS -JSH did stories and art for this Louisiana small-press comic company during the 90s, 00s and 10s. Titles included RV&OI COMICS, GRILLO COMICS, SECRET AGENT GRILLO and others. Some scans have sporadically appeared online over the years.
